Still Feeling Off Even Though Your Lab Work Is 'Normal'?

With Hashimoto’s, you may have been told your lab work is ‘normal’ or that taking ‘Synthroid’ should solve all your problems. Yet, Even with medication, you may still struggle with persistent symptoms, while conventional doctors dismiss your ongoing symptoms.

This disconnect occurs because standard care only manages lab numbers such as TSH and T4, and rarely address other factors such as compromised thyroid hormone conversion or the underlying immune dysfunction at the heart of Hashimoto’s.

According to the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association, Inc., approximately 50 million Americans (one in five people) suffer from autoimmune diseases.

Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis (HT) is a chronic, inflammatory, autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland marked by destruction of thyroid follicular cells by anti-body mediated immune processes.

Hashimoto’s: The Most Common Autoimmune Disease in U.S. ~ Affecting 7-8%of the U.S. Population

(Betterle & Zanchetta, 2003)

"Hashimoto's is a Polygenic disorder resulting from the combination of a genetic predisposition in conjunction with increased intestinal permeability and an environmental trigger".

(Fountoulakis & Tsatsoulis, 2004).

Autoimmunity develops when 3 factors are present:

  1. Specific Genes – that make a person susceptible to developing autoimmune disease.

  2. Specific Triggers – that turn on the genetic expression.

  3. Increased Intestinal Permeability (known commonly as “leaky gut”) – the breakdown of the intestinal lining which interrupts the immune system’s ability to regulate itself.

According to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, More than 27 million Americans suffer from Thyroid dysfunction, half of which go undiagnosed.

Of the detected cases of hypothyroidism, roughly 97% of cases are due to Hashimoto’s.

(Stephanie L Lee, MD, 2014; Braverman & Cooper, 2012).

The incidence rate of Hashimoto’s is estimated to be 10-15 times higher in females than in males with the most commonly affected age range being 30-50 years of age.

This is important b/c female fertility is being affected!

We Go Beyond Basic Thyroid Testing

Most conventional thyroid evaluations stop at TSH and T4. We take a deeper, more comprehensive approach to understand how your thyroid is functioning, why imbalances exist, and what may be interfering with optimal hormone production and conversion.

Comprehensive Thyroid Hormone Profiles with Antibody Testing

  • TSH, Total T4 (TT4), Free T4, Total T3 (TT3), Free T3
  • Free Thyroxine Index, T3 Uptake, Reverse T3
  • Thyroid Binding Globulin (TBG)
  • Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody (TPO Anti-body)
  • Anti-Thyroglobulin Antibody

Comprehensive Functional Blood Chemistry Panels

  • CBC
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)
  • Advanced Lipid Panel
  • Comprehensive Inflammatory panel
  • Full Iron Panel
  • 25-Hydroxyvitamin D3
  • Vitamin B12 and Folate

In-Depth Hormone Testing

(via both blood chemistry analysis and the DUTCH lab tests)

  • Sex and Adrenal hormone evaluation (Estrogens, Progesterone, Androgens, Prolactin, Cortisol, Cortisone, DHEAs, Melatonin)

  • Methylation status and evaluation of Hormone metabolism.

Gut Health, Intestinal Permeability and Microbiome balance

  • GI-MAP Stool Analysis
  • Evaluation of pathogens, commensal bacteria, and digestive markers.
  • Assessment of Intestinal Permeability, gut-driven inflammation and immune activation.

Micronutrient Cofactors for Thyroid & Immune Function

  • Nutrients required for thyroid hormone production.
  • Nutrients needed for T4 → T3 conversion.
  • Micronutrients involved in immune regulation and antioxidant defense.

Potential Immune Triggers in Hashimoto's

  • Food sensitivities & intolerances
  • Gut infections
  • Viral or bacterial infections
  • Chronic stress
  • Sex hormone imbalances
  • Environmental toxin exposure

Our patients often report transformational improvements in energy, mental clarity, and metabolism, alongside measurable reductions in thyroid antibodies that conventional medicine considers impossible to change.

Patient Stories of Transformation

I have worked with Dr. Gina for the past 7 years for menopausal issues and hypothyroidism. She was the first one to discover I had an under active thyroid and helped me choose the most appropriate thyroid medication, as well as, guided me on the specific supplements that would further support my thyroid health. She coached me with diet and lifestyle and I learned things from Dr. Gina that no one previously had explained to me.

I was referred to Dr. Gina by my neighbor who had been going to her for years. My neighbor and I would go on walks where we would discuss her treatment with Dr. Gina. I would pick my neighbor's brain every time we would get together, leading me to finally reaching out Healing Traditions Integrated Wellness. Dr. Gina made me feel like I was her only patient, always being so generous with her time and patient with my millions of questions.

I originally started seeing Dr. Gina for shoulder and low back issues. She is awesome treating sport and musculoskeletal issues and her acupuncture treatments for my back and shoulder pain helped me tremendously. The acupuncture treatments on my shoulder greatly speed up my recovery from a rotator cuff surgery. During one of my visits when Dr. Gina goes through and asks about general health issues, I had mentioned that I was loosing a ton of hair, gaining weight even though I was working out almost daily, felt like I could never get enough sleep to quench my chronic fatigue and always felt cold to the point I would sit in front of my space heater during the summer. She recommended that we run some lab work on me and look at a thorough thyroid panel.

Dr. Gina has such a supportive and compassionate nature to her, listening intently to my every complaint and or worry and always empowering me with education and providing me with actionable steps I can be taking with my health. I would at a loss with my health if it worn't for finding and working with Dr. Gina."
"I was referred to Dr. I first started seeing Dr. Gina for thyroid issues that weren't being fully addressed by my primary care doctor. She recommended I look into different thyroid hormone medication alternatives, which resulted in me finally getting on the right medication which changed so much for me. I finally wasn't waking up feeling like a zombie, never feeling like I could get enough sleep. She also helped me modify my diet and learn how to choose foods that optimized and supported my health, especially my blood sugar which also often tended to be borderline high. Within a year of working with Dr. Gina all my labs normalized to the point my primary doc asked what I had been doing. I of course told him all about Dr. Gina and Healing Traditions. After working with Dr. Gina for two years, my family and I moved out of Colorado for 5 years and then returned in 2021. Once we moved back to Colorado, I immediately booked a consult with Dr. Gina as I had been suffering from all the lovely symptoms that come along with being peri-menopausal. Once again, Dr. Gina put my mind at ease, armed me with information and dispelled all the misinformation surrounding HRT. Like usual, she ran a gamut of labs on me and checked my hormone levels and to no surprise, my hormone levels were tanked. From there, she made a game plan for me and I haven't looked back yet. She has inspired me and empowered me to become my own self advocate which has been worth it's weight in gold. I thought enduring and suffering through peri-menopause was normal and just a part of "getting older". Dr. Gina explained the importance of starting and staying on HRT and that "toughing out" my night sweats, sleepless nights, crazy brain fog and weight gain that came out of no where, was not an option anymore. She taught me that those symptoms were my alarm bells to larger and more complicated issues down the road if I didn't get myself on the proper HRT and support my body was needing at this stage of life. Don't know what I would have done without Dr. Gina all these years."

She is awesome treating sport and musculoskeletal issues and her acupuncture treatments for my back and shoulder pain helped me tremendously. The acupuncture treatments on my shoulder greatly speed up my recovery from a rotator cuff surgery. She recommended that we run some lab work on me and look at a thorough thyroid panel. I had just had my blood work ran by my PCP a few months prior to this and brought in those labs to her. My TSH was 3.2 and my doctor told me "everything looked fine". That was the only thyroid marker he ordered and measured on me. Dr. Gina explained that she liked to run and look at thyroid panels that included multiple markers and not just the TSH. However, she did also explain that a TSH of 3.2 was well "out of the functional range" but still within the "laboratory range" so was considered, "normal" by general allopathic standards. Once we got my lab results back from the labs Dr. Gina ran on me, they revealed that not only did I have a very under active thyroid, but that my labs showed I was positive for thyroid anti-bodies, revealing that I had an underlying autoimmune process attacking my thyroid, aka, "Hashimoto's. Dr. Gina explained that there is a genetic piece underlying Hashimoto's and that it often runs in family lines. This made total sense to me as my mother and both my grandmothers had hypothyroidism. I was finally able to start putting all the pieces to my health mysteries together. Dr. Gina helped guide me in choosing the best thyroid medication to request from my doctor. She also curated an entire personalized dietary and supplement protocol for me, as well as, helped me resolve chronic GI issues (H. Pylori and Parasites) I had since traveling abroad, which I believe was also crucial to my healing, in addition to the thyroid medication. It took me about 9 months to fully get myself dialed in with the proper medication dosage. Once my medication dosage was finally dialed in, I began to feel what it felt like to have proper thyroid hormone levels. I could finally think straight and actually felt rested after a normal 7-8 hours of sleep. This was after literally years of never feeling good or right. I also realized how many of my health issues I was trying to bring to my doctor were being flat out dismissed... Forever Grateful for all Dr. Gina has done for me and helped me with."
